BANGOR, Maine (NEWS CENTER) --- Dozens of people headed over to the Bangor Civic Center this weekend to do some local shopping for the holiday season.
The civic center hosted the annual 'Bangor Arts and Craft Show,' which is one of eight shows put on each year by 'United Maine Craftsmen.' More than 80 vendors were on hand to sell pottery, decorations and tasty 'made in Maine' treats.
'United Maine Craftsmen' represents about 300 artisans from around the state. Directors say shows like this weekend's go a long way in helping them keep up business.
"They can work for themselves and have that creative outlet and have this opportunity to sell their wares here," said Aletha Boyle, who is the president of the organization, "and then they are keeping all this money in the state of Maine and they're self employed which is huge! It's amazing to be able to do that."
The 'Augusta Arts and Crafts Show' will be taking place November 10 and 11 at the Augusta Civic Center. The '38th Annual Thanksgiving Arts and Crafts Show' will follow at the Brewer Auditorium from November 23 to November 25.
The organization will conclude the holiday season with the '35th Annual Holiday Arts and Crafts Show' at the University of Southern Maine on December 1 and December 2.
