(NEWS CENTER) -- Democrat Chellie Pingree will serve another term representing Maine's first Congressional District.
Pingree faced off against Republican Jon Courtney. It was an uphill battle for Courtney who did not perform well in polls before election day.
Rep. Pingree took the stage at Bayside Bowl, where several Democratic candidates held campaign night rallies, around 9:45 PM. She thanked her staff, husband and family - including her daughter who is due to have a baby at any moment.
She said of the campaigning Democrats, "this is very important work that we do and I'm proud to stand here beside you." Rep. Pingree also said that work in Washington isn't yet done. She says her party needs to work for the economy, jobs, a clean environment, universal health care for everybody, climate change and equality for all people.
