NEWRY, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- It may have come a week later than usual, but skiers seem to have 'snow' complaints about opening day at Sunday River this Tuesday.

"This was the best opening day I've seen here," said skier Eric Davis, who has been hitting the slopes for 55 years.

A mlid October made it difficult for Sunday River to open any earlier than this week.

Workers say once the pack is in place, it's all downhill from here.

They expect a busy season ahead, especially with the Farmer's Almanac forecasting a season full of snow storms.

"The snow on people's cars, in backyards -- it does get people thinking about skiing," said Sunday River Communications Director Darcy Morse.

But no matter what the forecast says, Morse says they'll be seeing snow at Sunday River.

A new $1 million snow system helps them create high quality snow, using less power.

They've purchased 300 guns along 15 trails.

"It allows us to make more snow on more trails at any given time," said Morse.

Sugarloaf Mountain has also purchased the new snow guns, and is expected to open this Friday.
