BUXTON, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- A large fire destroyed a house in Buxton Friday.
The fire broke out in a barn on Church Hill Road around 7:30am. When firefighters arrived, heavy black smoke was billowing across the road. It didn't take long for the barn fire to spread to an attached house. Firefighters say the construction of the home and heavy made their job difficult.
"The construction is older and there were 25 to 30 mph sustained winds and blew through the entire house," Buxton Fire Chief Nathan Schools told NEWS CENTER. "So lines were placed where we would normally put them, but with the amount and the intensity of the fire, we were not able to overcome the fire."
The house was used as a group home. Firefighters say the fire was not suspicious. No one was hurt.
