BANGOR, Maine (NEWS CENTER)-- In honor of Veteran's day a Bangor church is helping to keep those who served our country warm this season. The River City Wesleyan Church in Bangor presented a blanket to each of the 150 residents at Bangor's Veteran's Home.
John Butts with the church came up with the idea, "It kind of brings a tear to my eye, to be able to do for the veterans and also appreciate what they've done for us."
The veterans were grateful for the surprise and appreciation.
Army Veteran, Louis Treworgy, gladly accepted the blanket and shared stories with a church member, "It's nice because it was getting a little lonely here...After a while a hobby gets boring, it's nice talking to people. "
For Treworgy, the attention to veterans, like himself, is necessary.
"They are human like anybody else. They've suffered and they need friends and they need people to notice them," added thTreworgy.
The congregation raised nearly three-thousand dollars to fulfill the blanket order. Every member, however, agreed the reaction from the veterans and a chance to thank them for their service made it all worth it.
