BANGOR, Maine (NEWS CENTER)-- A family from Machias has collected items and has filled up a truck. They said they are taking them to New York to try and help people affected by Hurricane Sandy.

Matt Bauman and his wife Faye Mack said they have collected items in Machias and Bangor, and will make their way down to Pittsfield and Augusta. Bauman and Mack said they will make a stop in Connecticut and then Bauman will take the truck to New York.

Bauman said he will find out what part of New York he will be able to drop off the donations when he gets there, and he is happy to help.

"It's great to be able to take other people's generosity in whatever form, whether it would be money or clothes and be able to help people, help other people," Bauman said

The couple is already on the road. They said they plan to stay with family in Connecticut and then Bauman will drive the truck to New York on Saturday.
