PORTLAND, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- Police are investigating a two-car accident that sent ten people to the hospital and shut down part of Marginal Way in Portland.

Police say the head-on, two-car crash happened just after 11 a.m. Sunday in front of 132 Marginal Way.  Authorities say a Ford Explorer driven by 44-year-old Sebastian Bukuru from Westbrook crossed the center line and crashed into a Jeep Grand Cherokee head on.

There were six people in the Explorer, and two are currently in critical condition at Maine Medical Center.  Four people were in the Jeep, and they are all listed in serious condition.

Nine of the ten people injured were taken to Maine Medical Center. One was taken to Mercy Hospital in Portland.

Police shut down Marginal Way between Preble St. Extension and Chestnut St. as they continued to investigate the crash.

Anyone with information regarding the accident is asked to contact the Portland Police Department Traffic Division at 874-8532.
