ELLSWORTH, Maine (NEWS CENTER) --- Next month the Acadia Choral Society in Downeast Maine will be putting on its annual holiday concert and this year the singers will have the help of a young musician from Bar Harbor.

Phoebe Durand-McDonnell has been playing the harp for most of her young life. The Bar Harbor native developed her interest in the instrument at a young age. Now at the age of 16 she's been playing it around the state.

McDonnell is a member of the Portland Youth Symphony Orchestra. Her performance of 'Ceremony of Carols' with the society next month will be her first time playing to accompany a choir.

McDonnell says she practices the harp each day and adds that its melodies can fit into all types of music.

"Some orchestra pieces have crescendos that you can't do on piano or any other instrument," she said," so they say 'ah! Let's stick a harp in here."

The Acadia Choral Society will be having its 'Holiday Concert' December 1 and 2 at St. Saviour's Church in Bar Harbor. Showtimes are 7:00 p.m. on the first and 3:00 p.m. on the second.
