PORTLAND, Maine (NEWS CENTER) - The halls are decked and the chandeliers are dusted as the Victoria Mansion in Portland. It is about to open its doors for the holiday season.
Six thousand people have made it their annual tradition to tour the house each year.
While the original paint and many of the fixtures on the house haven't changed over the years, the theme of the Christmas decorations has, making each year a new experience.
This year's theme is the "Gilded Age" and local designers have been given the freedom to interpret that theme any way they wish into the room they are assigned.
Sam Heck, the Director of Development at the mansion says: "It's really interesting to see when you have returning designers who come back to you year after year, it's interesting to see how they reinterpret the original furnishings through the lens of each year's theme. You get to see..It's interesting because they're working off the same interiors but they have such a different feel to it depending on how they choose to interpret it. and along with that we also have new designers each year so you see both new interpretations by designers who have been with us for a long time. And then you also see other people bringing new influences, new styles to it as well, so it's great for us who work here because it's the same, but it's different."
The Victoria Mansion opens its doors for the holidays Friday.
It will be open for tours from 11 to 4:30 every day until the first weekend in January, except for Christmas and New Year's Day.
