HERMON, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- The Penobscot County Sheriff's Department is investigating a fatal crash in Hermon.

It happened on Thursday just before midnight on Route 222.  Deputies say a pick up truck traveling east left the road and rolled over.

50-year-old Retha Thomas of Levant was driving the truck and was thrown from the vehicle and found underneath it by deputies. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Deputies say her daughter, 18-year-old Brooke Thomas-Soper, was the passenger. She was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Deputies say that icy roads may have played a role in the crash. Neither the driver or passenger was wearing a seat belt.
