Today will be great weatherwise. Mostly sunny skies with highs in the upper 30s and low to mid 40s. Winds out of the west at 5-10 mph becoming north this afternoon. We will see it really start to cloud up later this evening as a low pressure system approaches us from the west.
Overnight lows will drop into the upper 20s and low 30s. Precipitation will start from and continue to move northeast through the state. By sunrise most of the state will see rain, sleet, or snow. Coastal areas: It's looking like you'll see a bit of snow to start but then it'll change to rain and stay that way for the remainder of the storm. Inland: You'll see some a bit of snow as well, then it looks like sleet then eventually rain. Basically a total mess. The mountains and higher elevations will see some snow to start as well, maybe even a couple inches, but I'm thinking that the warm air aloft will still bring you sleet and rain mixing in as well. Far Northern Maine: You will see mostly snow from this event. It looks like you maybe even pick up 2-4 inches in some spots before sleet mixes in as well. High temperatures Monday will make it into the low to mid 40s.
Basically this is going to be one of those messy storms, not one of the pretty ones. The precip will last though most of the day on Monday but will taper to showers as a cold front moves through Monday night. By late morning Tuesday things should be done.
After Monday/Tuesday things get pretty boring again in the weather world. A high moves in and takes over our weather for the rest of the week. We'll see highs in the upper 30s and low 40s and lows will be chilly overnight in the teens and 20s. Lots of sun during the days.
Have a great day and remember to leave yourself extra time tomorrow to get where you need to go. Roads will be slick especially where there is snow and/or ice!
