MINOT, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- Authorities are investigating an armed standoff where dozens of shots were fired by a homeowner in Minot.

Department of Public Safety Spokesman Steve McCausland says 44-year-old Michael Callahan was arrested shortly after 5:00 a.m. Saturday and was charged with reckless conduct with a firearm and domestic violence criminal threatening.

Police were first called to the home on Verrill Road around 10:30 p.m. Friday after another family member fled the house when Callahan began shooting inside.

State Police say Callahan fired dozens of shots over a six-hour period.  No one was injured during the incident, and it's unclear what Callahan was firing at or how many guns were used. One of the guns seized by police was an assault weapon.

A member of the State Police Tactical Team returned fire around 5:00 a.m. Saturday, and Callahan surrendered to police a short time later. The Attorney General's Office is investigating that part of the incident with officer involvement, which authorities say is standard procedure.

Callahan was initially taken to a Lewiston hospital for an evaluation before being transported to the Androscoggin County Jail.
