ELLSWORTH, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- Gary Allen, a man who spent the past several weeks planning to run from Mount Desert Island to Washington DC. is now on his way. Allen, has run dozens of marathons, but this is his first attempt at doing a 700 mile trek in which he hopes to run 40-50 miles per day. He started his journey Monday on Mount Desert Island, and hopes to be in the nations capital for the presidential inauguration on January 21st. He was in Ellsworth when we caught up with him. Allen is raising money for The Wounded Warriors Project, The American Cancer Society, and for the victims of the Sandy Hook Elementary Shooting. If you'd like to follow his progress click here.
