BANGOR, Maine (NEWS CENTER) - Bangor police have seen an unusual spike in purse thefts since the first of December.

While police say they are investigating, they want to remind women that they should never leave their purse unattended.

Sgt. Edwards, of the Bangor police, said in a release "these suspect(s) taking these purses are doing so swiftly as female shoppers browse for very short periods of time leaving their purses exposed in the cart."

Bangor police ask if anyone has any information about the purses thefts, they should call the Bangor Police Department at 947-7382, and if you wish to remain anonymous, press 6 and leave a message on the Tip Line.
