PORTLAND, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- Dr. Paul Ferguson, President of the University of Maine, was the speaker at this morning's Eggs and Issues forum in Portland.
As part of the Blue Sky Project, the University of Maine is aspiring to be the most student-centered and community engaged of American research universities. Dr. Ferguson believes the university can achieve this status by not only focusing on workforce training, but by linking research developments with new business.
"And that kind of business development is so vital to Maine," Dr. Ferguson said. "That's why the University of Maine through the Blue Sky Project says we want to re-partner, we want to re-commit to moving Maine forward through this research and economic development."
Dr. Ferguson says 75% of in-state students stay in the state after they graduate. Nearly 25% of out-of-state students also stay in Maine.
