READFIELD, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- One person was killed and another was injured in a car crash Saturday afternoon in Readfield.
State Police Spokesperson Stephen McCausland says police responded to a crash at the intersection of P Ridge Road and Lane Road in Readfield late Saturday afternoon.
Authorities say a 17-year-old boy from Wayne was driving a pickup truck on Lane Road and failed to stop at a stop sign at a three-way intersection. After going through the intersection, the truck crashed into a tree head on.
The passenger, who has been identified as 20-year-old Gabriel Soucy from Mt. Vernon, died at the scene.
The driver was taken to Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston. His injuries are considered non-life threatening.
Police say speed and distracted driving are being considered as factors in the crash. Authorities say the district attorney's office will review the case once the investigation is completed.
Officials say because no decision has been made on any charges in the case, the driver's name is being withheld because of his age.
Police say at the time of the crash, the weather was foggy and the road was wet.
The investigation into the accident is ongoing.
