PALERMO, Maine (NEWS CENTER) - Two men from central Maine have been taken to the hospital after a head-on collision with a tractor-trailer truck in Palermo.

In a media release, State Police say that two men were riding in a Jeep Cherokee on North Palermo Road when the driver lost control on a curve. The Jeep crossed the center line and slammed into a tractor-trailer truck.

Christian Arsenault, 23, of China, was driving and his passenger was Dean Camacho, 27, of Waterville.

Police say Arsenault was not wearing a seat belt and was thrown from his vehicle. Camacho was pinned inside until rescue crews could free him.

The men were taken to Maine Medical Center in Portland to be treated for their injuries.

The driver of the tractor trailer was not injured.

Police say speed was likely a factor in the crash.
