BANGOR, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- Around 14,000 high school students will be graduating in Maine this year with many planning to attend college in the fall. The process of paying to further their education can be stressful, but Saturday in Bangor there was help.

The Financial Authority of Maine (FAME) held one of its Cash For College events at the United Technology Center in Bangor Saturday to offer assistance to families and high school seniors filling out their Free Application for Student Aid (FAFSA) form. According to College Access Counselor, Mila Tappan, the earlier people get their FAFSA done and submitted the better.

"We want students to get their FAFSAs filed as early as possible because then they will maximize the amount of Financial Aid that their potentially eligible for," said Tappan.

Around 75 people took advantage of the free event Saturday including Brewer High School Senior, Rachel Triplett. Triplett plans on studying nursing at Husson University in the fall and is hoping to get as much help paying for her tuition as possible.

"With FAME helping out during the process, it's kind of a complex process and they really helped by assisting us the whole time through," said Triplett.

FAME will be holding over 50 College Goal Maine events across the state. To find out when the next one closest to you will be and what information to take with you, visit
