EASTON, Maine (NEWS CENTER) - Investigators say they can't rule out smoking as a cause of a deadly fire on Richardson Road.

The State Fire Marshal's Office is investigating the cause of a fire that killed 57 year old Mark Beaton and 56 year old Paul Beaton.

Fire investigators say that 10 people had been at the house at 46 Richardson Road Monday evening. Investigators say that the group had been drinking for several hours and many were smokers.

Investigators say that smoke woke up one of the people in the group and 8 managed to get out.

The State Medical Examiner's Office says that the men died of smoke inhalation.

There were no smoke detectors in the house.
