LEWISTON, Maine (NEWS CENTER) - Lewiston police are trying to identify a man who died after being hit by a train.

Lieutenant Michael McGonagle says a man was walking along the tracks on Whipple Street around 3:30 AM Saturday.

Lt. McGonagle says the conductor saw the man, attempted to slow down while blowing the train's whistle.

McGonagle says the man apparently ignored the warnings and was fatally struck by the train.
