NEWRY, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- January wasn't exactly a snowy month in Maine, leaving a lot of bare ground, but as long as there's cold weather, ski resorts can make snow - and that's exactly what they've been doing.
Places like Sunday River have had their snow guns running for more than 60 days, and they'll continue to be blowing into March.
Mt. Abram would normally be done making snow for the season by now, but they've extended that thanks to mother nature's lack of help. Unfortunately, for smaller mountains like them, that's a huge cost for them to continue.
They hope to recoop those costs during school vacation week, by offering big savings to skiers and riders.
Ski resorts say the toughest part of the job has been convincing people that they have snow.
Places like Shawnee Peak have brought in new "toys" like an airbag jump, meant for training, but they've added a tube for fun. Sunday River is offering 6 weeks of deals in response to the groundhog calling for an early spring.
