PASSADUMKEAG, Maine (AP) - The Penobscot County Sheriff's Department says a 75-year-old man who went missing during the height of Maine's snowstorm died after his pickup hit a tree and ended up in the Penobscot River.

Chief Deputy Troy Morton says the body of Gerald Crommett was recovered Sunday morning, a day after he was reported missing. Morton says Crommett apparently became disoriented after hitting the tree and drove his pickup 60 feet onto the Penobscot River in the blinding snow.

Deputies, wardens and state police began searching late Saturday morning after Crommett left home to go to his bait shop and failed to show up.

Morton says a mirror and bumper were found Saturday night along U.S. 2. Wardens using an airboat discovered the submerged pickup a mile from Crommett's house.
