BANGOR, Maine (NEWS CENTER) - Two inmates who escaped from the Charleston Correctional Facility in July will have two more years behind bars to think about their decision of walking away from the minimum security prison.

Phillip Gardiner, from Bangor, and Randall Moulton, from Belfast, pleaded guilty to escape charges.

Gardiner also pleaded guilty to a burglary charge for breaking into a convenience store after escaping.

Authorities spent nearly a week searching for the two escapees.

Per his original sentence, Moulton would have been released at the end of last year. Gardiner's original release date was in 2014.

Now they're each serving two more years. Penobscot County District Attorney says the stiff sentence is a deterrent to keep other inmates from escaping.

Moulton and Gardiner are now being held at the Maine State Prison in Warren and will not be sent back to the minimum security facility.
