MILO, Maine (NEWS CENTER)- A new municipal building opened in Milo today in the spot where a fire burned down a large portion of main street just four years earlier.

A ribbon cutting ceremony was held in Elaine's Café and Bakery, the first business to open in the new Heritage Building. Speakers at the ceremony included Milo's town manager, the owner of the café Elaine Poulin and representatives from Susan Collins' and Angus King's offices.

The construction of the building was made possible by a five hundred thousand dollar grant from USDA Rural Development.

Officials say the project was built without local taxes. The hope is that the new building will bring more money into Milo through business development and job creation.

"Milo Maine Street has a bright future. We have several other businesses that may be looking to expand here very shortly," said David Maynard, Milo Town Manager. "And Milo as a whole? I'm here because I am absolutely bullish on Milo's future. I believe this community is going to grow and develop and become the kind of community that the residents and businesses are longing to have happen."
