SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine (NEWS CENTER) - South Portland High School has reached a major milestone in the building of its new wing.
The school held a "topping out" ceremony on Friday.
Students and school officials signed a beam that was then hoisted to the top of the 39 million dollar addition. Construction has been underway for about 9 months -- and it was a long time coming. The school district had to trim 2 and a half million dollars out of its budget to make the project happen.
Now the project is on budget -- and just a couple days behind schedule. When complete -- the new wing will hold the cafeteria, a large meeting space and more classrooms.
