DANFORTH, Maine (AP) - Organizers say more than 150 snowmobilers have turned out for a ride-in in eastern Maine that marks the opening of a trail that links wind farms across the state.
Sledders from several snowmobile clubs in the area converged on the Stetson I and II wind farms on Saturday.
Organizers say one of the clubs, the Lincoln Snow Hounds, started the day with a pancake breakfast and rode 40 miles from the Rollins wind farm to Stetson.
Neil Kiely of First Wind says the snowmobilers at Saturday's event, which included a cook-out, was "uniformly enthusiastic." Among the guests was Carolann Ouellette, director of the Maine Office of Tourism.
The Ride the Wind project is a 590-mile trail linking the state's wind farms.
