LAGRANGE, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- The State Fire Marshal's office has been called in to investigate after a fire destroyed a home in LaGrange Saturday night.

LaGrange Fire Chief Joseph Baker said crews first arrived on scene around 8:30 p.m. Saturday, and it took nearly two and a half hours to get the fire under control at a home located at 5102 Bennoch Rd.

Baker said two people were home when the fire broke out, and they were able to make it out safely without any injuries.

The home sustained extensive damage and is considered a total loss.

Chief Baker said there were several explosions during the fire, and the roof collapsed as crews were working to put out the flames.

Bradford, Hudson, Alton, and Milo fire departments assisted LaGrange on scene.

There's no word yet on the cause of the fire, but Chief Baker said the State Fire Marshal's office has been called to investigate.

The family that lost its home in the fire is being assisted by the Red Cross.
