(NEWS CENTER) - Here's a look at eight bits of news (and one bonus bit!) to know for Monday, March 4th.

Mark Strong Prostitution Trial Resumes

Mark Strong is facing 12 counts of promotion of prostitution and one conspiracy count in connection with a suspected prostitution business based at a Kennebunk Zumba studio.

  • The prosecution could rest their case Monday.
  • Mark Strong's attorney, Dan Lilley, will continue its cross examination of Kennebunk Police Officer Audra Presby. Presby is considered a key witness for the prosecution.
  • After Officer Presby's testimony, some of the Johns who have pleaded guilty are expected to take the stand.

The state claims Strong managed the prostitution business allegedly run by Alexis Wright.

The defense claims there's no proof Strong ever made money off the operation or brought customers to Wright.

Legislative Hearings

The 126th Maine Legislature is in session and lawmaking committees are hearing testimony on a number of proposals including...

  • The Taxation Committee will consider a proposal that would provide a tax credit to employers hiring certain veterans.
  • The Veterans & Legal Affairs Committee will hear testimony on a bill to formally join a countrywide effort to elect the President by national vote instead of through the electoral college.

We're highlighting three measures before the State & Local Government Committee...

  • One resolution would recommend altering the state constitution to revoke the right to vote of convicted murderers.
  • Another resolution would direct the Capitol Planning Commission to build a monument honoring prominent Franco-American Mainers.
  • And lawmakers will hear testimony on a bill that would require edible landscaping in a portion of Capitol Park. "Edible landscaping" are decorative plants you can eat.

Bonus Bit!

  • Bob Dylan, according to a media release from Waterfront Concert Series organizer Alex Gray, will be playing at the Lewiston Colisee on Wednesday, April 10th. Tickets go on sale March 8th at 10:00 AM.
