Video: Missing 17-year-old skier

Nicholas Joy, age 17, from Medford Massachusetts, was last seen Sunday March 3 at 12:40 PM on the Sugarloaf Mountain Timberline Chairlift

CARRABASSET VALLEY, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- Game Wardens and the Sugarloaf ski patrol will continue their search Tuesday for a teenage boy who went missing on the mountain yesterday afternoon.

In an afternoon press conference, Wardens said that 17-year-old Nicholas Joy of Massachusettes was skiing the glades when he disappeared. The Binder trail is on the west side of the mountain. Joy was reported missing by his family when he failed to meet them at a designated time.

Wardens say there was no indication anyone went out of bounds at Sugarloaf. They said the conditions on the mountain are windy. The visibility is poor and is causing warden's trouble in getting an aircraft to area. Wardens also say that clues on the mountain are hard to detect, given those conditions.

Patrollers and Wardens searched for him through the afternoon and much of the night last night. They took a break around 1:30 this morning when the visibility got too bad and resumed the search at first light this morning and continued until dusk.

Temperatures at Sugarloaf last night were in the mid-20s with light snow falling.

Wardens are asking anyone who was in the area of the glades at Sugarloaf around 12:30pm or so on Sunday, and may have seen Joy, to contact them.
