T6 R7 WELS, Maine (NEWS CENTER) - Game Wardens say that a Yarmouth man was killed when his snowmobile collided with tree in T6 R7 Wels, west of Shin Pond.

Wardens say that 64-year-old Wayne Nickerson, of Yarmouth, was riding behind 49-year-old Bert Dickenson, of Lewiston, when the snowmobile missed a left hand curve near the snowmobile bridge on Sebois River.

The snowmobile then went airborne and hit the tree. Nickerson was wearing a helmet, but received head trauma.

Wardens say Nickerson's body was transported to Bower's Funeral Home in Island Falls. They say the incident remains under investigation.

The Maine Warden Service reminds all snowmobilers to pay close attention to changing trail conditions as spring approaches. Always drive responsibly and never drink and drive. Wardens say this is Maine's sixth snowmobiling fatality this winter season.
