WATERVILLE, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- Still weeks away from bathing suit season, 150 people in Waterville suited up and dove in to an icy pool for a good cause Saturday.

The 20th Annual Polar Bear Dip raised about $20 thousand for the Alfond Youth Center's Kid Kitchen Program.

Part of the Boys & Girls Clubs and YMCA programming, the Kids Kitchen offers hot meals to children after school.

According to Ken Walsh, CEO of the Waterville Boys & Girls Clubs and YMCA, the Kids Kitchen serves 40 thousand hot meals each year.

Walsh said he would like to expand the program and offer meals on the weekends.

This year's fundraiser incorporated a cook-off among the Central Maine restaurants participating in Maine Restaurant Week.
