TROY, Maine (AP) - Maine state police say the man who shot himself when police arrived to arrest him on child sexual abuse charges is identified as 71-year-old Raymond Carson.
State police spokesman Steve McCausland says Carson refused to answer the door when troopers arrived in Troy to arrest him for sexual exploitation of a minor on Wednesday. Troopers say he shot himself after the state police tactical squad was called in.
McCausland says Carson was taken to Central Maine Medical Center for surgery for a gunshot wound to the chest and that he's expected to survive.
Detectives had searched Carson's house last week and seized evidence related to the investigation. McCausland says the victim is a young girl.
