Berwick school teacher killed in car accident

BERWICK, Maine (NEWS CENTER) 34-year-old Amy Harris, a Special Education teacher from Berwick Elementary school, died Wednesday morning after a car accident on route 4.

Berwick Police say that at 8am, a 17-year-old Biddeford male was driving south in the northbound lane on route 4 when the cars crashed into each other.

Harris was driving with her two children, ages 4 and 7. Both were initially taken to Wentworth Douglas Hospital in Dover, New Hampshire, but one was then later flown to Massachusetts general for more evaluation. The other driver was also taken to Wentworth Douglas in Dover.

Steven Connolly, Superintendent of Berwick Schools, posted a letter on the schools website with information on how to helps students deal with the loss. School was cancelled on Wednesday and will be closed on Thursday as well. During 9am to 11am the school will be providing counselors.
