MILLINOCKET, Maine (NEWS CENTER) --- The town of Millinocket is so rich in history, that it has now outgrown its own museum.

That's why members of the Millinocket Historical Society have been working to move it from its current location at the town's municipal building to an old apartment building on Central Street that the town purchased. Members say once finished they are hoping the new museum won't just preserve history but also attract visitors to the town.

"It's {Central Street} a tourism corridor to Baxter Park," said David Cyr, who is president of the Millinocket Historical Society, "so as a tourism corridor we would do better business wise if we could get people in here to donate to see our artifacts...it's a benefit to everybody."

The Millinocket Historical Society is still looking for donations to help the museum move to its new building. They can be sent to Millinocket Historical Society, PO Box 11, Millinocket, Maine 04462.

The museum is open on Thursdays from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. It is located on the third floor of the Millinocket Municipal Building.
