BANGOR, Maine (NEWS CENTER)-- Bangor has a new police chief, and he's a familiar face. City Manager Catherine Conlow made the announcement today.
Mark Hathaway will be the new man in charge at Bangor PD. Hathaway is a 25 year veteran of the force who has worked at several positions including as a patrol officer, a detective and even a supervisor of the Department's Bomb Squad. He is also a graduate of the FBI National Academy. Hathaway was selected from a field of thirty eight applicants.
Hathaway said, "I am aware that this was not an easy decision for the city manager. There was some very good applicants. I know 2 personally and another woman from away who interviewed who was fantastic. So I'm honored and humbled that I was the one chosen knowing that the competition was as good as it was. "
Hathaway says the one thing he is not looking forward to is stepping down from the bomb squad. The Bangor City Council must still approve the hire which it plans to do at its May 13th meeting.
