PORTLAND, Maine (NEWS CENTER) - A man from New York accused of killing a woman in Portland last year made his first court appearance this morning.
Anthony Pratt did not enter a plea during his brief appearance. He is accused of shooting and killing 29-year old Margarita Fisenko Scott of Westbrook. Her body was discovered weeks later inside her SUV parked at the Motel 6 in Portland.
At the time of his arrest police said there were domestic violence and drug overtones to the case. Fisenko Scott was estranged from her husband at the time, Police say Pratt was her boyfriend. Pratt's attorney says his client is innocent and he will aggressively defend him.
"I can tell you now that this is a circumstantial case. The information that I have at this point is there are no eyewitnesses and there's going to be some serious forensic evaluation that's going to be going on", said Peter Cyr, Pratt's attorney.
Investigators say Fisenko Scott was killed at an apartment building on West Concord Street in Portland where Pratt was staying. His attorney says that apartment has been completely remodeled leaving investigators with no evidence at the alleged crime scene.
Pratt is due back in court on May 14th. He's being held without bail at the Cumberland County Jail.
