Three-building Lewiston fire leaves 75 homeless

LEWISTON, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- At least 75 people are homeless after an apartment fire at 105 Blake Street spread to two other apartment buildings Monday afternoon. Officials say no one was injured.

All three buildings, which housed more than 30 apartment units, are a total loss, according to Lewiston Fire Chief Paul LeClair.

Bates Street from Ash to Pine is closed at this hour while the fire investigation begins. It's expected to last a couple of hours.

Lewiston fire chief says the three buildings affected are on 105 Blake, 113 Blake and 172 Bates.

The fire started at around 4:30pm at 105 Blake Street, but still no information yet on why or how.

The Red Cross is helping those displaced or otherwise affected by the fire. The phone number for the Lewiston branch is 795-4004.
