LEWISTON, Maine (NEWS CENTER) - Fire investigators are first looking for clues of an accidental fire, then they'll start looking into arson.
A fire Monday destroyed three buildings on Blake and Bates Streets. 75 people who lived in those buildings are now faced with finding a new place to live.
Police call 105 Blake Street a transient building, saying people constantly come and go. The building was condemned in March and set to be auctioned in May.
Code enforcement officials have been asking tenants to move out and find new housing.
Most of the victims in the fire lost everything they had. But despite the loss, they are grateful they escaped with their lives.
One occupant of 105 Blake Street was alerted to the fire by her pet pig. In another building, it was a 1 month old daughter who woke up her mother.
The United Valley Chapter of the American Red Cross is helping the victims of the fire.
