The theory behind the Oedipus Complex was developed by Sigmund Freud to explain male psychological development. He was born on May 6, 1856.
Buildiing off Freud's work, Carl Jung adapted Oedipal principals into the female-centric Electra Complex.
The name Electra -- like Oedipus -- came from Greek mythology. Electra's mother had murdered her father, so Electra in turn plotted to kill her mother in revenge.
