DELAND, Florida (WESH) -- The Federal Aviation Administration is set to investigate a deadly Florida skydiving accident.
Officials said 62-year-old Santiago Rosell of Altamonte Springs was killed after skydiving at Skydive DeLand just after 5 p.m. Wednesday.
Witnesses said Rosell's main parachute never fully inflated and it looked as if he released the main chute to pull the backup, but it was too late.
"I did miss that part, but from first-hand words from friends, they saw him...and he did not have enough time to cut away," said witness Nancy Sardella. "I believe he thought he had more time."
Rosell was a pilot for the Boston Red Sox, and according to his blog, had years of experience flying jets, helicopters and working in the airshow business.
