WISCASSET, Maine (NEWS CENTER) - A high speed chase in Wiscasset ended with the car rolling over, the driver in the hospital and his father under arrest.
The crash happened on busy Route 27, the road between Wiscasset and Augusta, and closed the road for more than two hours. Wiscasset Police Chief Troy Cline says another police agency asked him to stop two cars headed into town.
He says one car was driven by Jason Gallagher of Damariscotta, and the other was driven by his father. The Chief says the father wouldn't pull over at first, but eventually did, which is when the son then sped away.
Chief Cline says he chased the 2013 Kia -reportedly a rental car -- but eventually backed off because of the speed. Cline says he then found the suspect's car had gone out of control and crashed, ending on its roof in the middle of the road. Jason Gallagher was taken to Maine Medical Center where he was listed in satisfactory condition as of Thursday afternoon. Gallagher's father was arrested for Hindering Apprehension.
Chief Cline says Jason Gallagher was wanted on multiple warrants for unpaid fines. He is now facing several new charges because of the chase.
