BANGOR, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- The internet is a tool that is used in many ways, both good and bad. Unfortunately, child pornography is amongst the bad things about the internet.

Unfortunately, the people who we needed to contact today to get hard numbers were unavailable, but anecdotally a district attorney we spoke with on Thursday said local agencies are getting better at using technology to catch child predators.

"Most of the cases we're seeing are being discovered by law enforcement itself monitoring different shareware programs and seeing who is downloading child pornography, and this is a national effort when we see a particular IP address hitting on a shareware program with child pronorgraphy on it over and over again they refer that to the state agencies involved," said Michael Roberts, Deputy District Attorney of Penobscot County.
