BANGOR, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- "It's a fun name, a fun burger," said Jake Bridges, Manager of Great American Grill. And now, it's a winning burger.
The No-Vacancy Burger took down Carolina's, Oriental Jade, Woodman's, 11 Central and then Schooner's in the final round. Once the official tallies were in, word spread quickly.
"We were all texting each other it was exciting because we have a small staff here so it was neat it was really fun," said Bridges.
In a field full of tough competitors, restaurant manager Jake Bridges was just happy to move on when voting came to a close each week.
"We didn't really know how far we were going to get because we were going up against 32 restaurants in Bangor, some pretty well-established restaurants. We're a small restaurant and kind of one of the secrets of Bangor," said Bridges.
But just what makes the No-Vacancy Burger so good?
"One, it's an awesome burger. It's angus beef, bacon, cheese, and it has some awesome sour pickles, marinated onions, red and yellow peppers. It's a huge burger people come out and their eyes are just wide. And it looks just like the picture! That's how we make it," said Bridges.
Bridges hope the victory will bring more local customers to the Great American Grille.
"So many more people know about us from out of state, and know how good our food and service is than from right here in Bangor. So we're hoping that will get people to come in and try us out," said Bridges.
And when it comes time to defend the title next year...
"That's going to be fun, I don't know what we'll do. We'll probably just keep doing what we do now and i'm sure it's going to be a little tougher next year but we'll do okay," said Bridges.
