LEWISTON, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- The Governor is asking the Small Business Administration to help out residents of Lewiston impacted by three major fires earlier this month.
The fires, all arsons, displaced hundreds of people and destroyed nearly a dozen buildings.
Governor LePage is asking the S.B.A. to make available emergency, low-interest loans to property owners and renters.
Emergency management agencies in the region say the damage from all three fires crosses the threshold required to trigger the loans.
The SBA can provide loans to homeowners up to $200-thousand for repair and restoration costs.
The agency can also authorize $40-thousand loans to help replace personal property.
Businesses can also borrow money to cover damaged property or loss of business.
