FAIRFIELD, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- Police said a Vassalboro man was killed in a single-car crash in Fairfield Saturday morning.

Sgt. Matthew Bard with the Fairfield Police Department said 69-year-old Frederic Bragdon from Vassalboro was driving on Norridgewock Road when his car left the road and struck a utility pole around 11:20 a.m. Saturday.

As of Sunday afternoon, Sgt. Bard said it was unknown if Bragdon died from a medical condition or died as a result of the accident. His body was taken to the state medical examiner's office for an autopsy to determine his cause of death.

Police do not believe speed or alcohol were factors in the crash.

The accident knocked out power to a widespread area Saturday, and Norridgewock Road was shut down for several hours as police were reconstructing the accident.

Sgt. Bard said Bragdon's dog was in the car at the time of the accident, but didn't suffer any injuries.  The dog was taken to the local humane society.

Fairfield police were assisted on scene by the Kennebec County Sheriff's office, Fairfield Fire Department, and Delta Ambulance.
