(NEWS CENTER) Former Sen. Olympia Snowe has a new book out about ending the gridlock in Congress. Snowe discusses it In The Arena with Pat Callaghan.

In January, Snowe ended her long career in public service, having spent nearly 4 decades in the Maine Legislature, and the U.S. House and Senate. She says she decided not to seek re-election last year because of the excessive partisanship in the Senate.

He new book is called "Fighting For Common Ground: How We Can Fix The Stalemate in Congress." Snowe talks about the changes she has seen in how the Senate operates, and how to make Congress productive again.

Snowe discusses how voters can have a real impact on what Congress does, and talks about her impressions of the presidents she has worked with, from Jimmy Carter to Barack Obama.

In Part 1, Sen. Snowe talks about the failures of Senate ledaership to work together, and what people can do to help Congress change course.

Part 2 focuses on the large number of Senators and Congressmen with little institutional memory about how work is supposed to get done at the Capitol, and offers some suggestions for change, such as 5-day work weeks for Congress, and open primaries to nominate more moderate candidates.

In Part 3, Snowe offers her thoughts on the style and accomplishments of the presidents she  worked with from 1978 to 2012.

In Part 4, Sen. Snowe talks about her post-Senate life, writing and promoting her book.
