DOVER, NH (NEWS CENTER) -- Disturbing details are out about the Friday night death of two-year-old Noah York in Somersworth, New Hampshire.
Jared Pope, 30, is charged with manslaughter in the case. Investigators say Pope -- who is Noah's mother's boyfriend -- used blankets and rope to smother the boy.
When emergency crews arrived at the High Street apartment on Friday, on they found the child in distress and took him to Wentworth Douglas Hospital where he was pronounced dead. Investigators say at first Pope told them 2-year old Noah York choked on something, but later admitted he smothered the child. Pope lived in the apartment with the boy and his mother.
Several people sitting in the courtroom sobbed openly as the disturbing details we read by the prosecutor.
At Pope's video arraignment Monday, the judged entered no plea on his behalf. Pope is being held on $250,000 cash bail. He is due back in court on June 28.
