DOVER, NH (NEWS CENTER) - Some disturbing new details about the death of a two-year old boy in Somersworth, New Hampshire.

Investigators say the suspect, 30-year old Jared Pope, used blankets, rope and a duffle bag to smother the child. They also say it was not the first time Pope did that to Noah York to try to quiet him down.

The prosecutor said the death of Noah York was not accidental.

"He had wrapped the child up in a number of blankets, tied a rope around those blankets. When that didn't silence the child from being fussy, as he described it, he put a sheet over the child. He put a pillow on top of the child because he could still hear the child crying and screaming and yelling", Prosecutor Geoffrey Ward told the judge.

Friday evening police and emergency crews responded to a 911 call at a home on High Street in Somersworth. The child was rushed to a nearby hospital where he later died.

Pope was arraigned from the Strafford County Jail via video. The judge entered a not guilty plea on Pope's behalf. He's being held tonight on $250,000 cash bail.
