PORTLAND, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- Youth building alternatives is a nationally accredited program that works with young people who have dropped out of high school.
Friday in Portland, 20 students graduated from the Learning Works YBA. The program provides life development skills and job training to at-risk youth, immigrants and low-income families.
Nine months of classroom instruction prepares them to take their GED exam. 83 percent of the students are placed in a job upon graduation and 36 percent go on to college.
