BANGOR, Maine (NEWS CENTER)-- The Queen City continues to expand and Monday night the Bangor City Council voted unanimously to help it grow. The city agreed to sell a parcel of land across from the Cross Insurance center to make way for a 130 room hotel.

Tanya Emery with the city's Community and Economic Development office said, "In the last five years Bangor has emerged as an incredibly important destination in not only in Eastern maine but throughout the North East and atlantic Canada. We continue to see shopping services grow. We continue to see hospitality and events grow."

Whether it is the Waterfront concerts or the new Cross Insurance center, many visitors flock to the Queen City and there is not enough room to fit them.

The new project will be sold for more than $500,000.00 and cost an estimated 18-million to build.

City Councilor Joe Baldacci said, "This is good for the city of Bangor. I'm really happy about it and I think it shows confidence in Bangor's future really because I think there will be other investments that will spin off from this in that general area."

Emery said, "It's been really important that the city create pathways that additional development can happen that's why we are taking such careful consideration to do all of the Main Street and Waterfront planning."

Ocean Properties will be presenting preliminary sketches by the end of August. Once approved, construction is expected to begin next summer and finish by August 2015.
